Julie Semple, Manager of Bute Advice Centre

During the pandemic I have tried to keep very busy.  My family are very important to me and I keep in regular touch with those on the mainland over the phone and facetime my grandchildren.  It's not the same as cuddles, but its great to read them bed time stories and hear them giggling.  I love to cook and have made the usual apple jelly, bramble jelly and strawberry jam.  I love growing our own veg and this year we've grown onions, radishes, cabbages, lettuce, peppers, peas, tomatoes and strawberries.  Next year we will expand our collection.  Living on the Island of Bute is very special and I love the wonderful views all year round, especially the changing colours of the trees and searching for  conkers in the autumn, kicking up the leaves. I'm looking forward to when things slow down in the garden and I can curl up with a good book, cosy blanket and a big mug of hot chocolate.
